Chiron is one of the greatest basilisks ever broken to the skorne lash, and his subjugation attests to Beast Master Xekaar’s perfection of the art of physical conditioning through pain. The beast’s physical might is matched only by the power of his destructive gaze. Entire ranks of foes wither to dust as Chiron sweeps his cold eyes across them, and enemy warbeasts tear apart their own flesh in agony at his barest glance.

Thoughts on Chiron

Chiron in a nutshell

Chiron is a heavy with Assault and a spray - in the same group of warbeasts as the Carnivean, the Pureblood Warpwolf, and the Road Hog. Fast moving, hard hitting, and slightly brittle, Chiron can threaten deep with assault sprays and has a 19" threat range when he assaults.

Combos & Synergies

The ubiquitous Paingiver Beast Handlers should probably go without saying. They are extra good because Chiron really want to charge.

  • Xekaar is his warlock that can take him in any theme. The boosted sprays work really well with the Counterblast animus, and fast warbeasts like Chiron benefit more from Alpha Hunter.
  • Basilisk Krea - Chiron is a Basilisk Drake and so triggers Flank. The Krea also likes the extra fury efficiency.
  • Basilisk Drake - Chiron's smaller siblings drink Fury. And gunlines to spray the enemy down work well when they work together.
  • Dominar Rasheth can really have a nasty feat turn with how deep Chiron's spray can go.

Disciples of Agony combos

  • Xerxis, Fury of Halaak gives this approach extra speed and extra MAT or melee damage as needed, and already like Basilisk Drake as well as liking more fury efficiency.
  • Makeda & the Exalted Court gives all those sprays Incite, making them brutal. And Bulwark really helps warbeasts as flimsy as the basilisks.
  • Lord Arbiter Hexeris has Black Spot for extra sprays all over the place.
  • Lord Tyrant Zaadesh - Counterblast have a lot of synergy with counter charge and defensive strike, either to increase the volume of defensive attack, or by using counter charge to be in better position for a spray
  • Tyrant Xerxis can use Tactical Supremacy, Energizer, or both to retreat him to safety after a spray.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Not terribly tough for his points. Of course it's always worth including a Krea with him.
  • Hit as hard as a regular titan, which is *fine* but not exciting for a 17 point heavy
  • In Disciples of Agony, Road Hog is a cheaper alternative, which have a more generally appliable animus and is otherwise quite similar
  • Aradus Sentinel have a very similar spray at a huge discount. You want to use Chiron's melee to make him worth.

Tricks & Tips

  • Assault sprays can let you kill some backline solos who thought they were a) well out of range and b) hidden from sight. Just be sure to finish your charge movement so that the backline solo is behind the charge target.
  • Against Hordes, Counterblast can let you put fury on a would be attacker and lower his damage potential

Other

Trivia

  • Chiron is named after a centaur in Greek mythology. Is he a horse - I don't really get it either.
