Becoming a full extoller is an arduous process, one with many trials where failure can result in death. Yet even novitiates who have yet to sacrifice an eye to gain their oculus can be useful on the battlefield. Each one labors day and night, carving the stone forms of the exalted, and through this skill, they can restore those damaged in battle or help quicken them to action. They are not warriors, but each wields a hammer augmented to shape stone, which can as easily be used to shatter the skull of any unwary foe that lingers nearby.

Thoughts on the Extoller Novitiate

Extoller Novitiate in a nutshell

An Extoller who is just beginning their training, he buffs the strength of Constructs, repairs them, and gives a tough bubble to Exalted models. It basically does for Ancestral Guardians, Hakaar the Destroyer, and the Supreme Guardian what Paingiver Beast Handlers do for Skorne warbeasts.

Using them as a 3 for 1 Requisition option is a good way to add a few extra souls to a list, this can be a invaluable asset in the Exalted theme.

Combos & Synergies

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • If he's using his tough aura on Immortals enemies can scalpel him out. Of course he's only two points.
  • Using both Paingiver Beast Handlers and the Novitiate is generally considered to be overloading on support.

Tricks & Tips

  • Remember he doesn't give tough to himself.
  • With two initial attacks and the ability to buy three more, Hakaar the Destroyer does most bonus single target damage from the strength buff - although the Supreme Guardian may do far more on a grand Thresher.
  • He's normally better kept back to buff STR than forward to be scalpeled out when he tries to use his tough aura - but this varies game by game.
