Dual Attack
Dual Attack

This model can make melee and ranged attacks in the same activation. When this model makes its initial melee attacks, it can also make its initial ranged attacks. A model with Dual Attack can make its initial melee and ranged attacks in any order you choose. This model cannot make ranged attacks after making a power attack.

  Errata-Dual Attack and Unit Charges (2023-10-27)
Question: If a unit with Dual Attack charges a single model, are all placed in melee range, and the first model kills the charge target, can the remaining members of the unit make ranged attacks, or do they forfeit their Combat Action because they don't have any enemy models in their melee range?
Answer: The check for melee range is done at the end of movement. If you kill the targets before they attack, they can still do their ranged attack. (Malkav13)

  Errata-Dual Attack and Special Attacks (2023-08-10)
Question: Can a model with Dual Attack make any combination of ranged special attack and normal melee initial attacks, or its melee special attack and normal ranged initial attacks? (Example: Bison Both Barrels and Ram, or Mariner Thresher and gunshot).
Answer: No.
Explanation: The bison can not use dual attack and also make a special attack. That is correct in that (Thresher) example too.

Defensive Strike
Once per turn, when an enemy model advances into and ends its movement or is placed in the melee range of a model with Defensive Strike, the model with Defensive Strike can immediately make one basic melee attack against it.

Direct Spirits
When a friendly living Faction warrior model is destroyed within 10 inches of this model and generates a soul token, you choose which model with the Soul Taker ability gains the destroyed model's soul, regardless of the proximity of other models. Enemy models are not eligible to gain soul tokens from friendly models destroyed within 10 inches of this model.

Question: Does direct spirits and/devour soul allow you to allocate souls to anywhere on the board?
Answer: Yes.

Divine Inspiration

Vault of the Faithful
During your Maintenance Phase, you can remove up to three soul tokens from this model to return one destroyed small or medium based friendly Faction grunt to play for each token removed. Grunts return with one unmarked damage box. Place the returned grunts completely within 12 inches of this model, and completely within 2 inches of another model in their unit. Returned grunts must forfeit their Normal Movement and Combactions the turn they are returned to play.

Soul Taker

This model can gain soul tokens from living models that are not soulless. If multiple models are eligible to claim a soul token as a result of the destruction of a model, the nearest eligible model claims the token. If this model reaches its limit on how many soul tokens it may collect, then it is not considered eligible for claiming that token.

This model cannot gain soul tokens from friendly models destroyed by friendly attacks, such as from trample power attacks, or spray attacks that hit friendly models.


Requiem - When a friendly living model is destroyed while within 10 inches of this model, this model gains the destroyed model's soul token. This model can have up to three soul tokens at any time. This model can spend soul tokens for the following:
Soul-Powered - During its combat action, this model can spend soul tokens to make additional melee attacks. It can make one additional attack for each token spent.
Spectral Vortex - This model can immediately negate any spell that targets it or a model within 3 inches of it by spending 1 soul token. The negated spell does not take effect, but its COST remains spent.

Special Attack
A model can make a special attack during its Combat Action if it meets the requirements for the special action or attack's use.
Thresher - This model makes one melee attack with this weapon against each model in its LOS that is in this weapon's melee range, regardless of whether that model is a friendly model or an enemy model. Thresher attacks are simultaneous.

Question: Does an effect that triggers "when one or more friendly Faction models are destroyed" only trigger one time with Thresher?
Answer: It will only trigger 1 time due to thresher.
Explanation: (DASchretz - judge, not infernal) The special attack is always a single attack even if the rules contained within call for multiple attacks simply because the rules are only there to tell players how to execute the named attack; whether that be making multiple attack and damage rolls (thresher, ground pounder, etc) or simply applying something like Armor Piercing to the attack in exchange for losing your other initials. You execute all the special instructions in the attack’s description and then the 1 attack of that name is completed. That’s when you finally move into the trigger effects step of the timing chart.

Battle Engine Rules

Battle engines are always 120mm based, independent models.

  • Never considered Warrior Models (even if the model is a Leader).
  • Might be living, undead, or construct.

Battle engines are Massive:

  • Cannot be pushed, knocked down, or stationary
  • Cannot be moved by a slam or throw
  • Not affected by rule of least disturbance
  • Cannot be affected by Grievous Wounds

Huge based models (120mm)

  • Never have LOS drawn to them blocked by cloud effects.
  • Never gain the DEF bonus from concealment or cover.
  • Never gain the DEF bonus from being a Target in Melee.
  • Can have Combined Range attacks target them even when the huge-based model is in melee.
  • Gains an additional 2 inches to throw distance when making a Throw Power Attack against a smaller model.
  • Gains an additional 2 inches to moving a smaller based models by a Slam Power Attack.
  • Headbutt, and Slam Power Attacks have a 2 inch melee range.

Battle engines are restricted from the following point sized games:

  • Recon (30 points)
  • Skirmish (50 points)

Total War games allow 1 to 3 huge-based Cohort models and battle engines for free.
