Theme - The Ghost Fleet
This mk3 Theme Force has no equivalent in mk4. You can build a similar army in Unlimited Cryx (if/when the models in this theme get ported to mk4 rules) |
The cursed pirates of the Ghost Fleet are locked in undeath. Nothing can destroy the revenants bound to Captain Rengrave so long as the blighted fires of the black ship Atramentous still burn, and the ghostly crews of countless wraith ships cannot be touched by the mundane weapons of men. The undead armada terrorizes coastal towns and port cities and preys upon the vessels of every nation that dares sail the waters of the Meredius. The Ghost Fleet is responsible not only for harassing targets, but also for distracting the mainlanders so that the Nightmare Empire might conduct its more sensitive operations in relative secrecy.

Thoughts on The Ghost Fleet
Ghost Fleet in a nutshell
If you like Revenants already, you'll probably love this theme. This theme restricts you to pretty much just Revenants, and rewards you with ... slightly better Revenants.
In 2017 the models in this theme suffered several nerfs and it has never been the same since. Nowadays it's an okay theme, and very fluffy, but it is unlikely to be part of a competitive player's list pairing - the other themes in Cryx are simply more competitive.
Before 2017 the theme was very strong if built in a specific way - maximising the number of Revenant units and thus maximise the models regenerated per turn, thereby overwhelming opponents because they aren't prepared to deal with so much infantry. With pre-nerf Deneghra1 in charge, it could knock the enemy down with Scourge then shoot it to death with Ghost Shots - all cranked up to 11 with her feat + Parasite.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- This theme is meta-dependant. If infantry become popular in your area, players will start bringing anti-infantry tech, and your infantry-heavy Ghost Fleet list will suffer.
- You don't have any strong anti-ARM tools except for your battlegroup.
- If you are going to run this theme, you'll need some sort of plan to crack ARM or swamp ARM to keep it from scoring scenarios.
- Anything that can RFP your Revenant Leaders is going to shut down your recursion. (Refer to Deathbound for full explanation.)
Casters
Popular casters include:
- Deneghra1, because she can fix your anti-ARM issue. Plus, you know, she's Deneghra1 - she makes everything shine.
- Terminus, he gives Tough to the army.
Unpopular casters include:
- Skarre1 because she really needs a Skarlock Thrall to operate.
List building tips
- Have a plan for anti-ARM.
- Use the maximum FA of Revenants.
- There is strong debate about whether min-size units or max-size units are better. One offers more recursion per points spent, but the other is harder to eliminate from the table (being eliminated stops all recursion). Experiment with both and see what works for you.
Starting a 25 point Brawl list
In 2020.10 Phillip Melvin, one of the LOS authors, put together this list for the Brawlmachine format. It was then updated for the 2021.10 errata. He even wrote about it's playstyle and expanding it beyond 25 points, which you can read here.
- Deneghra1: [+26 WJP]
- Leviathan: [14 pts]
- Defiler: [7 pts]
- Deathripper: [5 pts]
- Ol' Grim: [6 pts]
- Captain Rengrave: [4 pts]
- Machine Wraith: [2 pts]
- Revenant Crew of the Atramentous (Min unit): [9 pts]
- 3x Weapon Attachment: [Free] Template:Grey
- Revenant Cannon Crew: [4 pts]
