Warpwolves are humans that have been transformed into savage beasts well suited for battle. The druids of the Circle Orboros use the white-furred purebloods to cut swathes through the enemies of Orboros with measured ferocity and bone-shattering howls.

Thoughts on Pureblood Warpwolf

Pureblood Warpwolf in a nutshell

The Pureblood Warpwolf is a versatile, jack-of-all-trades Heavy which brings both ranged and melee options, the ability to strike deep and surgically behind the lines, the ability to navigate problem terrain, immunize itself against spells, and imbue the ability to bypass the bonuses to ARM or DEF granted by spells (as well as hit models which require magical weapons). It comes with all the perks of a normal Warpwolf, including the ability to regenerate, high defense, and respectable health boxes. It also has pretty good self control, avoiding Frenzy most of the time.

Combos & Synergies

  • Feral Warpwolf or Gorax Rager are your most reliable damage buffs via Primal.
  • Every version of Kaya offers the Pureblood something:
    • Kaya1 increases its melee accuracy and can teleport it back after it's done its work.
    • Kaya2 protects it from shooting via Shadow Pack and can increase its hitting power and defense with Forced Evolution. She can teleport it back with her feat.
    • Kaya3 can increase its melee prowess via Synergy. Fog of War and her feat are both good ways of protecting it, while her Field Marshall allows it to move, shoot, and back away.
  • Kromac1 appreciates a powerful spray attack to trigger Warpath off of; it can also keep it safe by moving it after shooting, while Wraithbane helps his heavies deal with buffs on their targets.
  • Kromac2 provides it with an ARM and STR buff under his feat and Carnage helps with its accuracy in melee. Awakened Spirit lets it cast its animus for free. He also appreciates Wraithbane, especially on himself when he goes into a buffed enemy heavy.
  • Tanith improves it in several ways; Affliction to deal with high-DEF or units, Scything Touch to increase its hitting power, and Admonition to keep it safe against melee threats. If the Pureblood warps Spell Ward while it has Admonition up, your opponent will be hard-pressed to both remove it and pin it down.
  • Putting Wraithbane on a Woldwyrd means the Wold will both ignore any defensive buffs your opponent puts on and do extra damage and hit more accurately against the target due to Purgation. Most players will be very reticent to put out any defensive upkeeps on their models with that combination.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Somewhat pillow fisted, even when warping Strength.
  • Not as durable as the equally priced Loki or as adaptive as Brennos or the Woldwarden
  • Wraithbane is situational; it won't do anything some games and be extremely important in others.

Tricks & Tips

  • The Surgical Strike: Charge a target and position the Pureblood properly so that the assault-spray hits the squishy support models the enemy was trying to keep safe. This just about doubles the range of the Pureblood's spray.
  • The Ninja: Warp ghostly and charge ( or trample if you have no LOS) right through an obstruction your opponent felt safe behind. Against higher ARM or multi-wound targets you will need some sort of STR/POW buff though to compensate not warping STR. Also when trampling don't forget that you forfeit your initials so you will usually not have more than 3 attacks. You will probably lose the Pureblood next turn so make it count!

Trivia

  • Unlike most warpwolves, which revert to human form while not "hunting", pureblood's are born and stay in the warpwolf form, since they are bred from "normal" Warpwolves.
  • Released in Hordes: Evolution (2007)
  • Resculpted in 2013 and now sold in a multi-kit with the feral and stalker wolves.
