Warbeast Rules

Lesser warbeasts are simply warbeasts with a 30mm base. While the rules don't explicitly call out lesser warbeast rules, there are some rules that imply some restrictions. Lesser warbeasts don't count for the following:

  • Spirit Bond: (must be medium-based or larger)
  • List creation: (they don't count toward caster cohort model count)

A lesser warbeast is still a warbeast.

For as long as the tribes of the farrow have gone to war, they have been accompanied by the vicious razor boars. As large as wolves, razor boars are deadly, untamed creatures that require little incentive or training to join the farrow in battle. When loosed upon an enemy, razor boars charge in heedless of their own well-being, intent only on goring their prey and bringing them low to feast upon their soft flesh. Survivors of farrow raids grow pale when they recall the speed with which a few razor boars reduced a well-armed soldier to a heap of rags and bloody bones.

Thoughts on Razor Boar

Razor Boar in a nutshell

Razor Boars are some of cheapest warbeasts around - light warbeasts whose main virtue is costing not very much while being able to boost attack rolls and to counter charge. Or more accurately their main virtue is being cheap, disposable, and able to take advantage of whatever bonuses their controlling warlocks provide for the whole battle group.

Combos & Synergies

Minions

  • Battle Boar Run the Razor Boar ahead of everything else, Primal it, and send it in.
  • Helga the Conquerer Field Marshal: Gang Fighter is exactly what the Razor Boar needs to turn it from a roadblock to an at least vaguely decent threat, able to punch above its weight.
  • Helga on Wheels making them cavalry gives them boosted charge attack rolls and impact attacks. Reposition 3, pathfinder and +2 speed are also pretty great buffs. Still as Death isn’t the greatest animus out there but it is much better when you are cavalry.
  • Midas Cheap bone tokens once they are dead - and expendable warbeasts used as roadblocks return to play easily with Pet Cemetary. Let the enemy kill them - and bring them back that much stronger.
  • Sturm & Drang Under Sturm they are cheap Shield Guards, able to take the hits in place of more valuable models. Under Drang with his Pack Hunters and Overtake they can chew up infantry pretty effectively, and Killing Ground for free charges is a much bigger proportional buff than other beasts get.

Skorne: Disciples of Agony

Trollblood/Minions: Vengeance of Dhunia

  • Krielstone - makes the boars armour 17 in melee, which is not bad for a 3 point speed bump.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Low MAT, low POW, die easily. Unless you give them buffs they die easily and clog Fury. Fortunately all five Farrow warlocks are good at buffing warbeasts.
  • Bacon heals enemy beasts as well as friendly ones.

Tricks & Tips

  • Put them behind the skirmishers to counter-charge. But their animus is only to be used some of the time.
