Thoughts on Stryker3

Stryker3 in a nutshell

Stryker3 is an aggressive melee oriented caster that enhances the melee capabilities of his battle group and supporting units. Though equipped with two offensive ranged spells, you’ll likely find yourself utilizing the Lord General to cast supporting spells and allocating focus. Generally he hits harder than Captain Allison Jakes, but she runs the same play style better thanks to her Sprint.

Maximising his feat & spells

He likes a decent battlegroup with Escort and turns melee infantry into wreckers with Fury. Arcane Bolt is never cast and neither is Chain Blast.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • On a large base he's a big target.
  • Most of what he does is get a great charge - in a faction chock full of slow troops and jacks (only sped up by Escort). He also needs to stand close to the action to make his feat useful, exposing him to retaliation.
  • 3 great upkeeps can easily leave you FOCUS strapped, and vulnerable to anti-upkeep techs.
  • Currently way too much overlap with other casters:
    • Captain Allison Jakes can manage a combined-arms force of jacks and supporting infantry better
    • Kraye can provide movement buff, threat range extension and damage buff for all of his battlegroup, not just a few selected jacks
    • Stryker2 has way more personal presence and damage-dealing capacity beside his supporting duty, while Stryker1 is much better at babysitting your army.

Tricks & Tips

  • You'll want to brush up on the Cavalry rules if you plan on using him.

Strategy

Stryker3's main method of winning is almost pure attrition.

Theme Thoughts

The main selling point for Stryker here is the access to mercenary heavy and colossal warjacks. Many Shield Guards and Vengeance on Precursors is nice, too.

  • Blockader - It becomes an unholy terror under Fury and his feat; auto-hitting P+S 25 Weapon Master Rocket Fists are something else. However, Iron Agression makes it very focus efficient outside of the feat. Escort makes it threat a very respectable 14" as well.
  • Galleon - Iron Aggression works on its extra Drag melee attack, of-setting MAT 6 on it.
  • Toro - Essentially budget Rowdys. The are great with him as his feat last a round, not a turn. Auto Hitting Counter Charges are very spicy. As are Countercharges with an extra damage die. Multiples of them should also to enough to keep him save from melee assassinations while the many shield guards you can bring keep him save from shooting.
  • Swabber - The perfect Escort for him. Not only does he provide extra ARM through the spell, it also has Lash, Girded and Shield Guard to keep him save.
  • Precursor Knights on their mini-feat turn; add in Stryker’s feat and both units will be rolling 5 dice after auto-hitting (Colossals will fall).
  • Legion of Lost Souls - On feat turn they will hit hit like a ton of bricks just like their living PK brethren. Difference is that Legion has reach and build in recursion.
  • Battle Priests - Strýker has a huge target painted on his face, thanks to his large base. They proc Vengeance on their units and potentially feed souls to Alexia2.
  • Alexia2 - Speaking of whom, Alexia is an awesome Fury target, as it enables her to to some devastating impact attacks against infantry to load her up with souls, which she can use to buy or boost against her charge target. Her thralls become extremely viable assassination options on feat turn. They can threat up to 21" non-linear from Alexia and deliver auto hitting 5 dice damage attacks on very unsuspecting targets.

  • Devil Dogs with Murdoch against any constructs will roll 5 damage dice on feat turn (know you’re playing convergence? Consider these guys)

  • Lanyssa Ryssyl: Deliver your warjacks' fists to your opponents faces faster and loaded up with more focus. Also Stryker’s feat turn doesn’t do you much good if you can’t reach your enemies.

  • Rhupert to help your favorite flavor of units navigate difficult terrain, as Stryker has no way of providing this.

  • Ol’ Rowdy’s affinity with Stryker is another tool to be used in keeping this speedy caster alive.
  • Centurions often find themselves in many Stryker 3 lists not only due to Stryker’s ability to speed them up with escort but also as primary targets for the spell Iron Aggression. Centurion’s large bases can also be used to obstruct LOS and charge lanes to Stryker, and Polarity Field will prevent enemies from Slamming their way through the Centurion to get to Stryker.
  • Lancers are not only useful warjacks for hurling either of the General’s spells at foes but also for cycling Stryker’s short ranged upkeep spells. Also if you only want to bring just enough Jacks to use up Stryker3’s warjack points take a Lancer and Ol’Rowdy.
  • Sentinel: You may want a shield guard since Stryker's large base makes him hard to screen and vulnerable to shooting. Also the Sentinel can hang out near Stryker in order to trigger the ARM buff from Escort. This leaves your other 'jacks free to charge off into the distance.
  • Colossals: Both the Hurricane and Stormwall can bring a flurry of accurate or powerful attacks to their opponent’s faces and do it 2 inches further while Escort is being upkept.

Stryker3 in a nutshell

Stryker3 is an aggressive melee oriented caster that enhances the melee capabilities of his battle group and supporting units. Though equipped with two offensive ranged spells, you’ll likely find yourself utilizing the Lord General to cast supporting spells and allocating focus. Generally he hits harder than Captain Allison Jakes, but she runs the same play style better thanks to her Sprint.

Maximising his feat & spells

He likes a decent battlegroup with Escort and turns melee infantry into wreckers with Fury. Arcane Bolt is never cast and neither is Chain Blast.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • On a large base he's a big target.
  • Most of what he does is get a great charge - in a faction chock full of slow troops and jacks (only sped up by Escort). He also needs to stand close to the action to make his feat useful, exposing him to retaliation.
  • 3 great upkeeps can easily leave you FOCUS strapped, and vulnerable to anti-upkeep techs.
  • Currently way too much overlap with other casters:
    • Captain Allison Jakes can manage a combined-arms force of jacks and supporting infantry better
    • Kraye can provide movement buff, threat range extension and damage buff for all of his battlegroup, not just a few selected jacks
    • Stryker2 has way more personal presence and damage-dealing capacity beside his supporting duty, while Stryker1 is much better at babysitting your army.

  • Blockader - It becomes an unholy terror under Fury and his feat; auto-hitting P+S 25 Weapon Master Rocket Fists are something else. However, Iron Agression makes it very focus efficient outside of the feat. Escort makes it threat a very respectable 14" as well.
  • Galleon - Iron Aggression works on its extra Drag melee attack, of-setting MAT 6 on it.
  • Toro - Essentially budget Rowdys. The are great with him as his feat last a round, not a turn. Auto Hitting Counter Charges are very spicy. As are Countercharges with an extra damage die. Multiples of them should also to enough to keep him save from melee assassinations while the many shield guards you can bring keep him save from shooting.
  • Swabber - The perfect Escort for him. Not only does he provide extra ARM through the spell, it also has Lash, Girded and Shield Guard to keep him save.
  • Precursor Knights on their mini-feat turn; add in Stryker’s feat and both units will be rolling 5 dice after auto-hitting (Colossals will fall).
  • Legion of Lost Souls - On feat turn they will hit hit like a ton of bricks just like their living PK brethren. Difference is that Legion has reach and build in recursion.
  • Battle Priests - Strýker has a huge target painted on his face, thanks to his large base. They proc Vengeance on their units and potentially feed souls to Alexia2.
  • Alexia2 - Speaking of whom, Alexia is an awesome Fury target, as it enables her to to some devastating impact attacks against infantry to load her up with souls, which she can use to buy or boost against her charge target. Her thralls become extremely viable assassination options on feat turn. They can threat up to 21" non-linear from Alexia and deliver auto hitting 5 dice damage attacks on very unsuspecting targets.

Thoughts on Stryker3

Stryker3 in a nutshell

Stryker3 is an aggressive melee oriented caster that enhances the melee capabilities of his battle group and supporting units. Though equipped with two offensive ranged spells, you’ll likely find yourself utilizing the Lord General to cast supporting spells and allocating focus. Generally he hits harder than Captain Allison Jakes, but she runs the same play style better thanks to her Sprint.

Maximising his feat & spells

He likes a decent battlegroup with Escort and turns melee infantry into wreckers with Fury. Arcane Bolt is never cast and neither is Chain Blast.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • On a large base he's a big target.
  • Most of what he does is get a great charge - in a faction chock full of slow troops and jacks (only sped up by Escort). He also needs to stand close to the action to make his feat useful, exposing him to retaliation.
  • 3 great upkeeps can easily leave you FOCUS strapped, and vulnerable to anti-upkeep techs.
  • Currently way too much overlap with other casters:
    • Captain Allison Jakes can manage a combined-arms force of jacks and supporting infantry better
    • Kraye can provide movement buff, threat range extension and damage buff for all of his battlegroup, not just a few selected jacks
    • Stryker2 has way more personal presence and damage-dealing capacity beside his supporting duty, while Stryker1 is much better at babysitting your army.

Tricks & Tips

  • You'll want to brush up on the Cavalry rules if you plan on using him.

The main selling point for Stryker here is the access to mercenary heavy and colossal warjacks. Many Shield Guards and Vengeance on Precursors is nice, too.

  • Blockader - It becomes an unholy terror under Fury and his feat; auto-hitting P+S 25 Weapon Master Rocket Fists are something else. However, Iron Agression makes it very focus efficient outside of the feat. Escort makes it threat a very respectable 14" as well.
  • Galleon - Iron Aggression works on its extra Drag melee attack, of-setting MAT 6 on it.
  • Toro - Essentially budget Rowdys. The are great with him as his feat last a round, not a turn. Auto Hitting Counter Charges are very spicy. As are Countercharges with an extra damage die. Multiples of them should also to enough to keep him save from melee assassinations while the many shield guards you can bring keep him save from shooting.
  • Swabber - The perfect Escort for him. Not only does he provide extra ARM through the spell, it also has Lash, Girded and Shield Guard to keep him save.
  • Precursor Knights on their mini-feat turn; add in Stryker’s feat and both units will be rolling 5 dice after auto-hitting (Colossals will fall).
  • Legion of Lost Souls - On feat turn they will hit hit like a ton of bricks just like their living PK brethren. Difference is that Legion has reach and build in recursion.
  • Battle Priests - Strýker has a huge target painted on his face, thanks to his large base. They proc Vengeance on their units and potentially feed souls to Alexia2.
  • Alexia2 - Speaking of whom, Alexia is an awesome Fury target, as it enables her to to some devastating impact attacks against infantry to load her up with souls, which she can use to buy or boost against her charge target. Her thralls become extremely viable assassination options on feat turn. They can threat up to 21" non-linear from Alexia and deliver auto hitting 5 dice damage attacks on very unsuspecting targets.
