Thoughts on PAGENAME
PAGENAME in a nutshell
The modulator is an anti-infantry jack, electrocuting lines of infantry but not hitting as hard as any of the other heavies in melee. It's best thought of as a light on steroids, with the cost and hitting power of a light warjack even if it has the bulk and damage of a heavy.

It’s the cheapest heavy in faction and you get what you pay for; it’s guns can only really be used against infantry due to their power and in melee it hits at a similar level to a light Warjack. Additionally due to its reliance on electrical damage it has some very poor match ups in the form of Krueger2 and the Storm Division theme.

Combos & Synergies
* Its guns, plasma nimbus and direct current all benefit from Ionization Servitors launched by a Prime Conflux.
* Destructotron 3000 makes it more accurate.
* Aperture Beams from Iron Mother Directrix's Exponent Servitors also boost the relatively weak attacks of the Modulator.  The combined effect of Ionization and Exponent Servitors substantially strengthen the Modulator.
* Fire Group from Iron Mother means he can get the direct current farther, getting more infantry under the line.
* Syntherion because it’s guns effect is not considered to have come from an attack it does not work with hot shot. However on feat turn it can charge in to stack Synergy, deal a respectable amount of damage and then shoot twice with dual attack. It’s attacks are not high quality, but sometimes quantity has its own value.
* Eminent Configurator Orion can buff the Accuracy and Damage output of the Modulator with his feat. Additional die to hit infantry, and additional die to damage enemy heavies or warcasters can be a surprising amount of punch out of a 10-point vector. Mage Sight, Spellpiercer and Magic Bullet can also ensure that the Modulators can scalpel out just about anything at range.

Drawbacks & Downsides
* It's too pillow fisted to really qualify as a heavy jack.
* Gets shut down by lightning immunity
* Plasma nimbus won't do anything to protect you from heavies
* If the shootiness is what you are after then the Tesselator costs seven rather than nine points, has a longer threat range, and hits harder with its guns even if it doesn't have the anti-infantry lines.

Tricks & Tips
Use "Direct Current" from your Emitter Surge to take out high DEF or Stealth models.  You do need to score a direct hit on your actual target -- if there is not a good enemy model to target and hit, don't forget you can line things up to target one of your own models and damage enemy models between them.

Model Advantages and Abilities

Headbutt Power Attack
Headbutt Power Attack
This model can make Headbutt power attacks.

No errata for Headbutt Power Attack (Create)

Slam Power Attack
Slam Power Attack
This model can make slam power attacks.

No errata for Slam Power Attack (Create)

Trample Power Attack
Trample Power Attack
This model can make a trample power attack.

No errata for Trample Power Attack (Create)

Resistance-Electricity
Resistance-Electricity
  • When this model suffers an electrical damage roll, remove one die from the damage roll.
  • Lightning cannot arc from this model.
  • Lightning cannot arc to this model (ignore this model when determining arcing lightning)

No errata for Resistance-Electricity (Create)

Pathfinder
Pathfinder
This model treats rough terrain as open terrain while advancing. While charging, slam power attacking, or trample power attacking, this model does not stop its movement when it contacts an obstacle.

No errata for Pathfinder (Create)

Dual Attack
Dual Attack

This model can make melee and ranged attacks in the same activation. When this model makes its initial melee attacks, it can also make its initial ranged attacks. A model with Dual Attack can make its initial melee and ranged attacks in any order you choose. This model cannot make ranged attacks after making a power attack.

Errata-Dual Attack and Unit Charges (2023-10-27)
Question: If a unit with Dual Attack charges a single model, are all placed in melee range, and the first model kills the charge target, can the remaining members of the unit make ranged attacks, or do they forfeit their Combat Action because they don't have any enemy models in their melee range?
Answer: The check for melee range is done at the end of movement. If you kill the targets before they attack, they can still do their ranged attack. (Malkav13)
Explanation: This post is correct.

Errata-Dual Attack and Special Attacks (2023-08-10)
Question: Can a model with Dual Attack make any combination of ranged special attack and normal melee initial attacks, or its melee special attack and normal ranged initial attacks? (Example: Bison Both Barrels and Ram, or Mariner Thresher and gunshot).
Answer: No.
Explanation: The bison can not use dual attack and also make a special attack. That is correct in that (Thresher) example too.

Construct
Construct
This model is a construct, and is not a living model.

No errata for Construct (Create)

Plasma Nimbus
If this model is hit by a melee attack, immediately after the attack is resolved you can choose to have the attacking model suffer a POW 10 electrical damage roll unless this model was destroyed or removed from play by the attack.

No errata for Plasma Nimbus (Create)

Direct Current
If this attack directly hits, you can choose to have all models whose bases are intersected by a line drawn between the center of the model directly hit and the center of this model suffer an unboostable POW 10 electrical damage roll. This damage is not considered to have been caused by an attack. Resolve Direct Current damage rolls simultaneously with the damage resulting from the attack that caused it.

  Errata-Direct Current (2024-2-19)
Question: Direct Current specifies that a line is drawn from base center to base center, and all models intersected by the line would suffer a POW 10. Do the attacking and target models suffer the POW 10?
Answer: The attacking and defending models do not take a POW 10 from Direct Current.
Explanation: N/A

Warjack Rules

Convergence of Cyriss warjacks are called vectors. While being a "Vector" isn't a gameplay rule, the Convergence warjacks do carry some additional rules of their own that set them apart from normal warjacks.

Interface Node
  1. This model has an interface node instead of a cortex, represented by the I boxes on the damage grid.
  2. This model gains focus, and can have no more than 3 points at any time.
  3. This model can spend focus only during its activation.
  4. This model cannot gain or spend focus while its interface node is crippled.
  5. This model is immune to effects that cause a warjack to suffer damage directly to its cortex.
  6. This model is immune to effects that require a warjack to have a functional cortex.

No errata for Interface Node (Create)

Warcaster Dependent MAT and RAT
  1. This model's MAT and RAT are equal to the current MAT and RAT of its controlling warcaster.
  2. This model does not directly benefit from MAT/RAT bonuses, but any alteration to a controlling warcaster's MAT/RAT will be passed along to this model.
  3. Effects that affect attack rolls will affect this model normally.

No errata for Warcaster Dependent MAT and RAT (Create)

No Power Up
This model does not power up and does not automatically gain a focus point for being in the controlling warcaster's control range during the Control Phase.

No errata for No Power Up (Create)

Force Induction
When this model spends a focus point during its activation, you can give a focus point to another warjack with an operational interface node if the two are in the same battlegroup and are within 9 inches of one another. This does not override the Interface Node rule limiting the warjack's focus points to 3.

No errata for Force Induction (Create)

Lore

The arcane displacer drive represented a major breakthrough in vector design. Freed from the hampering influence of gravity, heavy vectors equipped with this technology—such as the Conservator, Assimilator, and Modulator—gain unparalleled freedom of movement. Coruscating with electrostatic energy along its hull, the Modulator can channel this charge into a bolt of pure energy that electrocutes everything in its path.
