Adapting the hunting techniques they once used to secure food for their tribes, croak trappers wield nets and daggers to bring down a new sort of prey. Prowling through stream and river to surprise their quarry, trappers hurl their nets to ensnare a victim before descending on it with a flurry of dagger blows.

Thoughts on Croak Trappers

Croak Trappers in a nutshell

They can be used as knockdown bots, or to contest. Though keep in mind that a deviated shot won't cause knockdown since Quake only works if the shot directly hits. Pathinder & Prowl help them reach inconvenient places for your opponent.

Combos & Synergies

  • Combine with models that have poor MAT or RAT, or deal extra damage to knocked down models with rules like Trash.
  • Dominar Rasheth's cloud gives them stealth.
  • They are possibly the cheapest and easiest beacon for the Ironback Spitter's gun to land boostable blast damage on otherwise difficult to hit models; since they are immune to Corrosion, they won't even feel the shot and will stay alive to throw ineffectual nets around for another turn unless your opponent deals with them himself.
  • Maelok1 the croak trappers are not really worth targeting with spells but a Maelok offers all of his infantry a nice arm buff and appreciates models that can help him land mortality.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • 12" threat range is small.
  • RAT 5 means they'll need to aim and/or used combined ranged attack to reliably hit their targets, further decreasing their threat.
  • They don't deal damage at range, and the knockdown effect often only benefits you in the form of one wasted focus/fury to shake at the beginning of the opponents turn.
  • no Knockdown effects are prevalent in the current meta limiting viable targets.

Tricks & Tips

  • Aim them at beasts and jacks to make them waste a fury/focus to shake.
  • Send them at flanking solos without steady to slow them down since they can't shake.
  • Throw them into concealment on circular zones to trigger prowl and make the opponent use way more than 3 points worth of model activations to remove them.
  • if nothing can be knocked down they still have melee weapons
