Aelyth Vyr is one of the most distinguished ryssovass ever to have watched over the mountain passes of the Shard Spires. He is the embodiment of the ryssovass tradition—a steadfast defender of his people and a merciless killer bent on ending the lives of those blighted Nyss who have forsaken their duties. With the recovery of Nyssor, Aelyth has found new purpose in overseeing and guiding the ryssovass who have flocked to Ios in aid of the Retribution.

Thoughts on Aelyth Vyr

Aelyth Vyr in a nutshell

Aelyth is a support for your Ryssovass Defenders and your non blighted Nyss in general. By granting +1 to attack rolls and Dying Breath to his dedicated unit he really tunes the Defenders up to eleven; making them punishing for opponents to deal with in melee. Because Dying Breath is an Elite Cadre ability it persists after Aelyth’s death.

On his own he's an OK combat solo, with slightly above-average defensive stats, but also the ability to exact revenge on someone when he dies. This helps mitigate his slightly inflated cost for his own output. It’s also worth mentioning that Reposition 3 when in the only theme he is allowed in makes him mobile as well as defensive with a good sword.

Combos & Synergies

  • Aelyth lives and dies with the Ryssovass Defenders, and can be regarded as their de-facto character unit attachment. However, the fact that he is not attached to a single unit, allows him to buff 2 units at once in his CMD bubble. You can get him for free in the Defenders of Ios theme, where he gets a handy Reposition.
  • Any Nyss, not just Ryssovass gain +1 to hit from him. This stacks with the Priest of Nyssor and pushes the odds to hit for Nyss Hunters, Scythe and Lanyssa to obscene levels.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Doesn't offer anything for your army outside of Nyss, so you need to be running Nyss to get value from him.
  • Unless you take him for free, he pumps up the cost of an already expensive unit
  • Melee based combat solos rarely make their points back alone.

Tricks & Tips

  • Because Dying Breath persists after he dies, do not be scared to throw him into the action. A charging weapon master can always do a bit of damage.
