Thoughts on Cataphract Incindiarii
Cataphract Incindiarii in a nutshell
Incindiarii set everything on fire! Whatever gets hit by the template burns - the template missing is frequently better than hitting. An excellent unit for burninating infantry.
Combos & Synergies
- Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer give them extra speed.
- Croak Raiders - Have these suckers black oil your enemies and set things on fire better than Menoth himself.
- Basilisk Krea and Agonizer - Extra durability is good on everyone, but especially on models with middling defences.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- 3" AoEs that hit only hit one target as most tournament players have devices to set their spacing up for this.
- AoEs that miss take a while to resolve, which gets annoying.
- Low model count
- Don't make the mistake of thinking they are actually hard to kill; ARM 16 and multiple wounds mostly protects them against POW 10 shooting, blasts, and auto-wound effects like corrosion. Two POW 12 shots or a boosted POW 12 (e.g. from charging) will on average rolls force a tough roll. But being able to survive anti-infantry tech is itself useful
Tricks & Tips
- It doesn't matter that much if you miss; that template's going to land somewhere. And set whatever's under it on fire.

Trivia
- Cataphract Incindiarii loosely means "Armored Scorchers". Cataphract comes the Greek word Cataphractus, which means "fully enclosed." Incendia means scorch / burn / brighten, plural incendiarii, active noun, meaning those who ignite.
