Thoughts on Shivers

Shivers in a nutshell

In an ideal world he takes a hit via Shield Guard, and triggers both Primal Rage and Freak Out. Then he advances and uses his 3d6 attack roll to try and Critical Smite someone. Note that he doesn't need to advance directly towards the attacker, nor does he have to target the attacker. In an unideal world he takes a hit via Shield Guard and gets killed, because he is durable but in a faction that doesn't really leverage armour

His other important ability is Mimicry it allows him to gain the effect of any self animus. If you want Sprint take a Warpwolf Stalker if you want to jam and paralyse enemies take a Wild Argus and if you want even more from your Storm Raptor you could have him use Sky Fire. This is just the tip of the iceberg and you may be able to find more fun combos over the course of a battle.

All in all Shivers can do a lot but because his best abilities are tied to opponent interaction he is more of a deterant and warbeast tech peice rather than a powerhouse melee solo

Combos & Synergies

  • He has all of the typical Wolfsworn synergies: Grayle gives him tactician, and can pop Storm Rager on him. War Wolfs trigger sic em and Morraig gives him +1 to attack rolls.
  • Mimicry works on multiple warbeasts, as Circle is chalk full of warbeast with Range: SELF animi: Warpwolf Stalkers give him Sprint and the Wild Argus gives him Doppler Bark, Earths Blessing ensures does not have his Shield Guard ruined by pop-n-drop tricks. It’s an ability that really opens up his flexibility.
  • Baldur1 and a Woldwarden trigger the woodwarden's Animus near an eneny caster, have shivers clone said Animus near Baldur then have Baldur teleport and wreck face

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • His output is very ‘feast or famine’ if the enemy do not damage him he does very little, if they do he is a competent combat solo. Because this requires your opponent to play into your hands it is very easy to negate.
  • A Wold Wight is a 4 point shield guard that takes Battlegroup buffs.
  • With 9" threat range and good but not amazing defensive stats he will likely not see the other side of the table to make his Freak Out improved stats matter. You are basically banking on the fact that your opponent will trigger Primal Rage somehow and them then not being able to kill him after he advanced towards the attacking model.

Tricks & Tips

  • Minicry can be tricky with order of activation of your warbeasts; plan ahead.

Trivia

  • Released 2020.12
  • Shivers is a baby gorax that bonded with Boomhowler3. Apparently Boomhowler has latent warlock powers.
  • A weird thing is that Shivers has pathfinder while the Gorax is notable for being the only Circle warbeast without pathfinder. I guess being small and a baby, Shivers can navigate terrain a lot easier.
