Dual Attack

This model can make melee and ranged attacks in the same activation. When this model makes its initial melee attacks, it can also make its initial ranged attacks. A model with Dual Attack can make its initial melee and ranged attacks in any order you choose. This model cannot make ranged attacks after making a power attack.

  Errata-Dual Attack and Unit Charges (2023-10-27)
Question: If a unit with Dual Attack charges a single model, are all placed in melee range, and the first model kills the charge target, can the remaining members of the unit make ranged attacks, or do they forfeit their Combat Action because they don't have any enemy models in their melee range?
Answer: The check for melee range is done at the end of movement. If you kill the targets before they attack, they can still do their ranged attack. (Malkav13)

  Errata-Dual Attack and Special Attacks (2023-08-10)
Question: Can a model with Dual Attack make any combination of ranged special attack and normal melee initial attacks, or its melee special attack and normal ranged initial attacks? (Example: Bison Both Barrels and Ram, or Mariner Thresher and gunshot).
Answer: No.
Explanation: The bison can not use dual attack and also make a special attack. That is correct in that (Thresher) example too.

Question: Does the pistol benefit apply to models not in melee with the attacking model when the pistol is on a spray?
Answer: No, it only applies to models with which the attacking model is in melee.
Explanation: The intent is that a model only ignore the penalty for being in melee with the models that model is in melee with. Pistol only works against the models in the melee with the attacking model.

For decades Kharybdis was lost, believed to have been destroyed when the Cygnaran Navy sank the blackship carrying it. With nothing but a crude map, Captain Aiakos set out to recover this powerful helljack that slumbered in the deep. Kharybdis now terrorizes victims of the warcaster’s bloody raids, tearing anything within reach to pieces.

Kharybdis in a nutshell

Kharybdis is a versatile warjack with a 12" threat range (before buffs), who only has to make it within 4" of its target often making him ideal for assassination runs. His defensive stats are average but Prowl (when taken with Aiakos) and Steady help keep him safe until he can be delivered.

Before the Black Fleet errata he was unpopular due to his points cost and lackluster rules; the general consensus is that he is now a solid package for his points cost.

Combos & Synergies

  • Either version of Aiakos lets you use the Acid Cloud / Prowl combo with ease. Either of them can speed Khary up, making its threat range even more respectable.
    • Aiakos1 (solo) gives extra speed and Grievous Wounds.
    • Aiakos2 (warcaster) gives extra speed and more accurate in melee via Carnage AND a feat turn assault/blind combo
  • Scaverous's TK spell coupled with Aiakos1's Escort can get Kharybdis to a 16" threat range, or even 18" if you manage to TK the target closer. A 21 point package is hard to fit into a Scaverous list, but it is fun.
  • Skarre2 likes a Steady model for her feat.
  • Skarre3 can give Khary boosted ranged attacks (Guided Fire), which makes the spray much more likely to Blind targets.
  • Terminus can give Khary berserk (Ravager) and then you can murder everything in his large 4" melee range.
  • In the Scourge of the Broken Coast theme, the Chain Strike ability allows him to attack enemy models while staying safe behind a wall of tough, medium-based infantry. This also allows Kharybdis to easily benefit from the Gang Fighter theme benefit.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • A tad high on the points cost spectrum.
  • He doesn't have Assault, Quick Work, or etc. So you can use that spray in melee via Gunfighter, but if you do then you'll lose out on your melee attacks.

Tricks & Tips

  • Acid Cloud will trigger the Prowl ability when bonded with either Aiakos1 or Aiakos2.
  • Acid Cloud's version of "At any time" is different to every other one in the game. This difference means Khary can use Acid Cloud after running or failing a charge.
