The dragon Everblight has unleashed a new species upon the endless battlefields of western Immoren, a species engineered to combat the threat of the infernals. Elegant and horrifying, the Virtues are Everblight's elite vanguard, his perfect warriors. Every Virtue is born with the caustic blight of the dragon woven into their blood. These lightning-fast combatants can secrete clouds of toxicity from their pores, spit acid at their foes, and peel their dissolving forms apart with ease. The purity of their blight is so flawless that their mere presence masks the souls of the Legion's faithful.

Thoughts on Virtue Host

Virtue Host in a nutshell

The Virtues are Everblight's (non-ogrun) elite. They aren't Nyss, they aren't Nephilim, they are a completely new species birthed of pure blight. This unit is versatile, capable of moving up the board quickly with solid defensive stats, and then attacking at either ranged or melee (or preferably both). Virtues won't necessarily be killing heavy warjacks, but they will go toe to toe with just about any infantry in the game.

If the unit can get into melee range on an assault charge, then their Toxic Spit AOE cannot deviate off their charge target if you miss, meaning you are guaranteed to land the corrosion of the charge target (and possibly other nearby models) which will trigger Peel back the Layers. This means when the unit charges in they are typically making six boosted P+S 11 melee attacks, in addition to potential damage from the spit, and this is before any ARM debuffs (such as Bethayne 2's Dissolve) or damage buffs (such as new Kryssa's Ignite) are applied to them.

All Virtues also have Soul Ward, as aspect of their creation process and part of Everblight's plan to keep the souls of his Legion safe.

Combos & Synergies

  • Virtue Champion - They will often be fielded together, as the Champion grants this unit Blight Cloud. With Blight Clouds they are mostly safe from incoming fire. The Champion also prevents Corrosion from expiring, making this unit more effective
  • Yssylla - Toxic Blizzard is a great way to spread around corrosion for them to follow up on.
  • Blight Archon - It strips Corrosion Immunities and can apply unit wide ARM buff via Dragon's Blood.
  • If you want to double up on the templates; a Teraph (possibly run by a Blight Archon for the counterblast synergy) lets you spread around Burning Ground templates, which lets you dictate where the enemy can go even better.
  • Kryssa if their low P+S has you down, try them under her feat. Fully boosted P+S 14 claws do accomplish stuff!
  • Bethayne1 - Deceleration and Blight Clouds make them really not worth shooting at. She also runs a mean Archangel who can spread around corrosion excellently with Blood Thorn on it - and even lets you double up on continuous effects. Also, Disintegration and Blood Thorn with their Assault shot will allow you 3 POW 14 shots and 6 fully boosted POW 15 claw attacks thereafter, something that may allow you to go after an ARM19 heavy and come out on top.
  • Bethayne2 - She or another unit can dissolve armor with Withering Death, and the hosts are not a bad target for Transmutation, giving an effective P+S 15 and making them DEF 16. When combined with a Virtue Champion for Blight Cloud they will be DEF 18 against shooting.
  • Lylyth4 - Deflection and Blight Clouds make them virtually Impossible to shoot. Mortality makes all of their attacks very scary and on feat turn their guns are buffed.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • If Peel Back the Layers can't come into play, they're pure anti infantryspam specialists; P+S 11 in melee and 10 at range just does not break armor. Of course three scather templates for eight points is superb against light infantry.
  • ARM 16 5HP means that charging POW 12s will kill them much of the time. They can basically only survive infantry charges thanks to their scather templates.
  • They're not Blighted Nyss, thus will be unaffected by the Tactician bonus in Children of the Dragon and will not be affected by the Blight Archon's Veteran Leader aura.
  • Boosted damage from a charge does not stack with Peel Back the Layers.
  • 8 points is pretty pricey for 3 bodies and you get diminishing returns the more you take of them. The fact that their designated support solo is 6 pts discourages you from running a full Virtue boat.

Tricks & Tips

  • For your Assault shot, assuming you made a successful charge and have the target in melee range, even if you miss on the dice the deviating AOE can't miss the target and it'll get corroded. Thus you'll get fully boosted attacks on both melee attacks.
  • The gun cannot apply corrosion to incorporeal models, although it can damage them (since it is a magical gun).
