Captain Phinneus Shae has long been fond of the Buccaneer, finding it eminently useful both for labor and fighting. After one of his favorites lost its arm in a scrap, Shae took it to Engines West in Ceryl for repairs and was talked into paying for a complete weapons overhaul, commissioning a pair of axes, one equipped with an integrated cannon. While it took the machine a few weeks to adjust, Scallywag now seems to enjoy blasting enemies with its cannon and only occasionally tries to use either axe as its missing gaff hook.

Thoughts on the Scallywag
Scallywag in a nutshell
Scallywag is Shae's new character 'jack, but he is available to the entire charter. He is a light 'jack with all sorts of cool tricks. He brings a pretty wide-array of decent weapons for his size. Parry, Bounding Leap, and Overtake means he can pretty much go where he wants to. He will not survive much incoming hate, so you should play him on the wings picking off solos and ambushers if you want him to last.
He draws a lot of comparison to the Freebooter another fast Warjack that has to meet certain conditions to crack armour. He has a few extra bells and whistles in the form of a gun, leap, parry and overtake, but his weaker defensive stats (+1 Def, -2 Arm & -4 HP) mean you really need to have a plan for him or he will be wrecked that much easier.
Combos & Synergies
- Shae, naturally, as it can go in deep without worrying about not being in CTRL range. He also gets free charges and a feat that adds to his assassination range (14 inch charge or 16 inch walk with bounding leap)
- Rahera with manifest destiny and gang fighter Scallywag can trade above his points cost.
Talion Combos
Anyone can take him in The Talion Charter which opens up a few more combos:
- Though it is counterintuitive, if you marshal Scallywag with Dirty Meg in Talion under Shae, he can use the Crush bonus on top of Gang Fighter and benefit from a free charge via Coup De Main making him quite punchy for a light (MAT 9, P+S 16 and four attacks before spending focus when you include Crush and Gang Fighter).
- Use a Powder Monkey or several for the focus.
- If you are going for a bounding leap assassination, Hawk can run in 14" with impunity beforehand and apply the Gang Fighter bonus.
- a Swamp Gobber River Raider can shoot your intended target, place itself in a way not to block Scallywag’s charge lane/landing zone and if it hits with its weapon it may just provide an additional DEF debuff.
Vengeance of Dhunia Combos
Oddly enough Scallywag can be taken in Vengeance of Dhunia in only one specific instance: If he's marshalled by Raluk Moorclaw. Scally will turn friendly faction to the rest of your list and benefit from drives.
- Specifically, Raluk will grant Scally Assault, letting it take a POW 12 shot every time it charges, which is neat, under Crush! it gains an extra attack and +2 damage to melee attack rolls, too.
- Pyre Troll or Slag Troll - Your resident damage buff, which also affects Point Blank attacks.
- Krielstone - +1 STR and +2 ARM makes him hit above his weight class and take a surprising amount of punch for a light war jack.
- Grissel1 - Boundless Charge hands out a free charge, which is very important for marshalled jacks and Calamity is always great.
- Kolgrimma's Hunter's Mark is the only other way to give Scally a free charge.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- With Gangfighter it hits at effective P+S 14 in melee and has three attacks, which is impressive... for a light jack. It will still fail to crack most heavily armored targets.
- It can be difficult to get warrior models in to spots where the Scallywag can actually benefit from Gangfighter. It can be difficult to both make full use of Overtake & full use of Gangfighter.
- If you get him stuck between enemy models the enemy will easily be able to get rid of him during their turn. It's defensive profile is not great.
Tricks & Tips
- Thanks to Point Blank it has three initial melee attacks it can use to Overtake its way through enemy infantry.
- Use Bounding Leap to get into the back arcs of things.
Other
Trivia
- Released at Adepticon (2019.03)
- In the lore it has the same chassis as the Buccaneer & Swashbuckler. They are sold as separate kits, but the torso & legs are the same for each.
