The Slag Troll is the corrosion focused elemental Warbeast whereas the Pyre Troll is the ranged focused fire beast and the Storm Troll is the anti infantry mixed arms beast. The Slag Troll is primarily melee focused and hits like an economy heavy Warbeast vs corroded targets.

The key part of its kit is assault in order to trigger peel back the layers effectively, as trolls lack other ways to apply corrosion. While it can cast its animus on itself outside of Power of Dhunia charging with this animus will use his whole stack of fury. Speaking of its animus, it is a fantastic damage multiplier, but it’s not the only one in faction Rage, Primal & Flaming Fists are all strong contenders.

When comparing the Slag to its pre-cid state it has a more consistent output and great pool of targets to go after (rather than just constructs) but because erosion on its melee weapons yielded an additional dice not boosted dice its overall damage has been capped, especially vs higher arm, lower defence targets.

Combos & Synergies
* The Krielstone can provide extra strength and extra armour - everything likes both.
* Ledfoot & Tredz can give ride-along for extra threat range.
* The Troll Axer can give out Rush for extra threat range - and the Slag Troll can then buff its damage after taking advantage of this.
* Lanyssa Ryssl and Kolgrima can hunters mark for free charges and bonus threat range.
* Captain Gunnbjorn - Kill Shot is great, so it can charge, make and Assault Shot, punch your target to death, then make a Kill Shot for even more output. With Explosivo you can even shoot protectorate jacks or mince infantry, while Guided Fire helps with its mediocre RAT.
* Rage from the Dire Troll Mauler or Primal from Rök make it seriously punch above it's weight class.
* Borka2 loves a damage buff on himself and the Slag Troll animus delivers.
* Jarl - If you kill your charge target with the assault shot you can still use Swift Hunter after your charge movement is completed. If you end up in melee with any other enemy model due to this you did not fail your charge.
* Horgle1 May prefer a Pyre Troll but if you need a melee powerhouse hot shot + erosion make 1 powerful anti construct gun.

Drawbacks & Downsides
* It's threat range is pretty puny and it*'s RAT is nothing to write home about either. Missing the Assault spray seriously hampers your subsequent melee output against the charge target.
* throughly mediocre vs corrosion immune models.

Tricks & Tips
* When used with Borka2 remember that Assault only triggers on charges that are part of its activation, not on counter-charges.
* At DEF 12 ARM 17, 22 hit points it's only 1 ARM and 8HP short of the toughness of a Dire Troll and with the animus up it hits as hard in melee as a ranged Dire Troll even before taking erosion into account.
* It has great spot removal. Or hurting jacks and battle engines. Whichever. It's a flexible tool.
* always consider if the animus is worth it or if another initial or Rage would serve better.

A model making an attack with this weapon targeting a model it is in melee with ignores the Target in Melee bonus when resolving this attack.

  Errata-Pistol (2023-09-17)
Question: Does the pistol benefit apply to models not in melee with the attacking model when the pistol is on a spray?
Answer: No, it only applies to models with which the attacking model is in melee.
Explanation: The intent is that a model only ignore the penalty for being in melee with the models that model is in melee with. Pistol only works against the models in the melee with the attacking model.

Lore

Slag Trolls are living proof that the adaptable Troll species can and will eat anything. With a taste for metal, the Slag Troll has metabolised powerful acids which rapidly melt through iron and even tempered steel. Such dim-witted Trolls are notoriously angry, goaded by metal shards continuously growing through their flesh. Their habit of spitting corrosive acid has not endeared them to enemies of the Trollbloods.
