Major Katherine Laddermore

Major Laddermore has a fairly well proven effect on the men of the 33rd Heavy Cavalry Battalion: they all fight harder to impress her. Fortunately they don't all start completely thinking with their balls, but there are some slight downfalls.

Major Katherine Laddermore in a nutshell

Laddermore is a character Storm Lance, costing as much as two ordinary ones - but making them all the more accurate along with the rest of your Storm Division army while having the ability to electrocute so much infantry. She is also a combat beast herself, with the possibility of 8 damage rolls, in addition to any impact attacks she can get. Don't be afraid to send her headlong into a pile of infantry, she can often come out on top.

Combos & Synergies

• Storm Knights - they all like +1 to hit. Most of them are MAT 7, but it helps bring their RAT up to 6, so it's still useful.
• Lieutenant Gwen Keller protects from shooting
• Anything else that buffs electricity: The Firefly, Stormguard Infantry, a Storm Strider, Nemo3; or buffs Storm Knight models: Keller, Stormblade Captain
• Anyone with either Deflection or Deceleration so she doesn't get shot.
• With a Stormblade Captain's Tactician, she can be a great choice to unjam your front line thanks to multiple Lightning Generator attacks.

Drawbacks & Downsides

• She's a big target and difficult to screen on a large base.
• Storm Knights have a few ways to fix their chances to hit, so your mileage may vary regarding Veteran Leader.
• Maybe a point overpriced. 8 points is a massive investment, and she competes with elite models like the Morrowan Archon, Alexia2 or Gabriel Throne. That isn't to say she is not worth 8 points, she absolutely is, but there is only so many 7-8 pts models you can fit in a list, so you have to choose wisely.
• It can be difficult keeping her in range to buff more than one unit of Storm Lances.
• Storm Division already has useful support solos who are near-mandatory to be brought (Gwen Keller, Stormblade Captain, either Rhupert or Throne for Pathfinder) - avoid support bloat.

Tricks & Tips

• Don't forget, Assault shots come after finishing your charge move, so even if you killed your charge target, you can redirect your melee attack against another in melee range - it's just not boosted for damage anymore. If you fried everyone in melee range with the Assault shot and the lightnings, you'll still get the reposition bonus, as it was not a failed charge.
• Unlike Storm Lances, her lightning generator is not optional. Make note of where the leaps will travel before charging and possibly frying models you don't want to kill then.
  • It is only an issue for your own models if you're playing in the Hearts of Darkness theme as in the Storm Division everyone gets electricity immunity by default.
