Theme - Band of Heroes
Template:Trollblood Theme Force
This mk3 Theme Force has no equivalent in mk4. You can build a similar army in Unlimited Trollbloods (if/when the models in this theme get ported to mk4 rules) |
Kriels maintain martial traditions that go back to the beginning of the trollkin as a people. Armed with axe and shield, kriel warriors have long waged bloody wars to keep ownership of their lands, and their tales of valor are carved into the faces of krielstones to inspire those generations that follow in their footsteps. These bands of warriors give rise to new champions, who earn their acclaim in battle against the enemies of the trollkin. They emerge from the wilderness in a tide of steel and stone to strike down all who stand before them.

Thoughts on Band of Heroes
Band of Heroes in a Nutshell
This is the Trollblood melee infantry theme. No Pygs, no Fire Eaters, very few guns, no spellcasters, but a good selection of infantry support models. It's a smashmouth infantry army made up of melee beatsticks and it's rewarding to casters who like that.
A quick note on sportsmanship; though your warriors' attacks can RFP a model on any melee attack, that is not the same as always RFPing on every attack. In the spirit of fair play, you should inform your opponent whether or not you're using the RFP feature - preferably before making the attack. If you don't, they might assume there was no RFP and start using their own abilities (such as casting Raise the Dead next turn).
Theme's weaknesses
- Little to no guns makes it hard to snipe out enemy support solos.
- Many of the models can be used in the Storm of the North theme, and SotN is arguably a deeper and more flexible theme.
List Building Tips
Units
- Trollkin Champions regardless of theme are a great unit. Most caster will want two, they are the backbone of the faction.
- Trollkin Fennblades die in droves unless you can improve their DEF and ARM. Their dedicated solo the Fennblade Kithkar helps them hit but doesn’t do anything amazing on his own. Their main shtick is being fast thanks to no quarter. After killing two models a piece they can then repo to jam some more.
- Sons of Bragg - a good alternative to a min unit of champions - less survivable but with the benefit of fell calls and a spray.
- Trollkin Warders - they don’t have that much offensive output but point for point they are some of the hardest to kill models at range.
Support
- If you are choosing this theme over Storm of the North your exclusive infantry support model is the Stone Scribe Chronicler - while not as versatile as a Fell Caller Hero all melee infantry like him, especially bigger units doomed to die, but you're most likely still going to take the Fell Caller because he's better.
- Horgle1 by casting the Pyre Troll or Slag Troll animus and improving the very limited ranged game in this theme you can do interesting things with Horgle.
- Horthol hits hard and buffs the long riders.

Casters of Note
She is good all-around, and works with infantry lists in general.
He is an excellent infantry caster so really likes this theme. Even Ground is excellent, and Trolls like not being charged.
