Storm Troll
Unlike the many varieties of trolls that prefer to blend into their environments, a storm troll primed with galvanic energy and ready to attack is a blazing beacon of power, intimidating well beyond its size. Deadly lightning erupts from the array of natural conductors that runs the length of its spine, playing along its sides before bolting from its mouth at anything that arouses the troll’s ire.

Thoughts on Storm Troll
Storm Troll in a nutshell
The Storm Troll is one of the elemental light trolls, it can struggle to stand out against its brother the Pyre Troll which is a more dedicated ranged support beast with a damage based animus.
By comparison the Storm Troll is a mixed arms warbeast with an anti infantry gun and anti Warjack fists. It also has a support animus but this one is often reserved for models tied up in melee with chaff infantry to clear them faster.
Repulsor Field & being able to limit counter attacks by destroying a cortexl makes the Storm Troll oddly survivable, not quite to the same level as the Swamp Troll or Troll Bouncer but still better than a normal elemental Troll.
All this in one package makes a Troll that does a bit of everything but doesn’t really have a dedicated target without warlock and army support. Being the cheapest warbeast with a gun in faction it has a niche, it's just not always the tool for the job.
It's also notable that the animus makes your caster lightning immune, so the likes of Krueger2 or Nemo3 can't assassinate them.
Combos & Synergies
Warlock Synergies
- Borka, Vengeance of the Rimeshaws likes turning into an electrocutioner - and the storm troll loves stationary targets it can hit.
- Jarl Skuld - it's the cheapest warbeast with a gun,it gets swift hunter (not on the e-leap) and can apply magic bullet.
- Captain Gunnbjorn - Kill Shot, Gunfighter and Guided Fire are great on any warbeast with a gun.
- Ragnor - oddly vs Warjacks cortex damage lets you automatically trigger weight of stone. During feat turn Repulsor Field can become obnoxious and Earth’s sanctuary, pathfinder and steady are generally good buffs.
Other Synergies
- Dhunian Knot - when you have 1 single shot puppet master is very useful.
- Krielstone - as with all models a bit of extra armour never hurts.
- Troll Whelp - shoot him in the back to fry nearby stealth infantry he is dirt cheap and if there is nothing to shoot eat him for the healing/fury.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- When not frying infantry with its gun it’s thoroughly mediocre in most other areas.
- The arcs are unboostable.
- There are other ways of killing infantry that don't rely on devoting a warbeast to the task.
- Because of its low Mat and it’s need to hit to trigger e-leap, so it eats Fury.
Tricks & Tips
- lighting generator on its gun makes shield guards a lot less useful as if you are within 3 inches to use shield guard you will be 4 inches away for a zap (providing you roll high enough and more models are not in the way).
- watch out you don’t get pushed out of melee range on your own turn vs abilities like retaliatory strike and defensive strike, push the Troll B2B with these kinds of models.
