Little is known about the nightmarish apparitions called machine wraiths, though they are certainly some warped deviant of mechanikal artifice. Some speculate they are the bitter ghosts of arcane mechaniks or fallen priests of Cyriss; others maintain they are fallen warcasters. Whatever their origin, their howling, metallic call strikes a chill into the marrow of even the staunchest warrior.

Thoughts on Machine Wraith

Machine Wraith in a Nutshell

Cheap incorporeal models are great for controlling/contesting scenario zones, and this guy fits the bill perfectly. Secondly he makes an excellent warjack harrassment piece.

Combos & Synergies

  • A Reaper can drag the enemy warjack closer so the Wraith can charge it, then Dark Dominion it even deeper into your lines.
  • Casters with the Scything Touch spell like a MW, because its high SPD and incorporeal ability lets it get almost anywhere in the enemy lines and apply the ST debuff.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Dark Dominion doesn't work vs Colossals, Cephalyx, Convergence, Hordes, or cortex-less warjacks (ie the Avatar).

Tricks & Tips

  • For the first couple of turns, try to find somewhere safe (ie behind a building) that is 18" away from the enemy flag and/or 14" away from enemy zone(s). That way you've always got a model ready to contest those flags/zones at the drop of a hat.
Similarly, you can "threaten" the enemy flag by hiding somewhere 14" away from it. If the enemy forgets to to leave a model within 4" of their flag (or you kill them all) then your Wraith can swoop in and steal it.
  • You can use it to screen your caster from enemy melee attacks, but only by occupying the space that the enemy model wants to charge into.
  • Dark Dominion
    • Keep an eye out for warjacks that are near the edge of their controller's control range. You can use Dark Dominion to move them completely out of their control range and then that jack will get no focus next turn.
    • The MW will be corporeal when the jack moves, so don't position your MW such that it blocks the jack from moving where you want it to go.
    • Try to get into the enemy model's back arc before you attack, for a +2 to hit. Just note you can't go "past" your charge target, see 101 - Charges for more about that.
    • Move the enemy warjack such that its rear arc is now facing the rest of your army, so you get +2 bonus on any further attacks vs it.
    • Move the enemy warjack such that it can't see any of your army, so it can't declare charges next turn.
