The horrific, insect-like aradus are among the most terrifying of the skorne’s warbeasts. Protected by a thick layer of chitin, aradus soldiers lash out in battle with hooked claws to drag enemies toward their vicious mandibles. The aradus sentinel possesses venom sacs that can be constricted to fire a precise blast of debilitating venom at its enemies. Living tissue exposed to this toxin dissolves and sloughs off the bone in melted gobbets.

Thoughts on the Aradus Sentinel

Aradus Sentinel in a nutshell

The Aradus Sentinel is a cheap, ranged, heavy spray-beast. It is nearly immune to incoming fire thanks to carapace and it does an impressive amount of ranged damage to enemy warbeasts or casters it hits; they are frequently considered "assassin-bugs" for this reason. Infantry swarms readily fall prey to the spray. And at 12 points it's pretty cheap for a heavy.

Combos & Synergies

  • Paingiver Beast Handlers - fury management and to make it an effective melee warbeast when it needs to engage by buffing its strength.
  • Titan Gladiator or Terrorizer - Rush is an excellent threat range extender
  • Hexeris2 - Black Spot and sprays go very nicely together.
  • Morghoul1 and Xerxis2 both buff the speed of the Aradii to acceptable levels.
  • Makeda1 Shield Guard goes well with Carapace, but she can take or leave the rest of its kit.
  • Any warlock with a DEF/ARM debuff feat to enable the assassination.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Corrosion damage can be resisted
  • It's painfully slow (though this isn't as bad on a ranged warbeast)
  • It's basically a Basilisk Drake with a 1" lower threat range plus a point's worth of extra offence (for poison) and a whole lot more survivability. If all you want is glass cannon offence then you can get three drakes for every two sentinels.
  • No Assault really restricts its threat range compared to either the Road Hog or Chiron. But what do you expect for a 12 point heavy with Advance Deployment and near invulnerability to ranged attacks.
  • By warbeast standards it is very pillow fisted and can't brawl with heavies thanks to its P+S 14. Instead it hits like an utterly top end light in melee - and is the rare example of a heavy that actually hits harder with gun than in melee.

Tricks & Tips

  • It's almost immune to ranged attacks, so makes for great cover and basilisk drakes can freely spray all over it.
  • throw away what you can’t kill in melee
