As of 2019.08 Warmachine University will be adding a lot more Lore content to the site. This is going to have to be done under some restrictions, though - see below.

These articles are very much a work in progress.

Intro

Message from the Admin

Up until now Warmachine University (WMU) has been focused on the gameplay side of Warmachine & Hordes only. Before giving the greenlight to this new Lore project I spent a lot of time talking to other users, the other admins, and Privateer Press (PP) staff. The end result is:

  • WMU Admins - we're not exactly keen on the idea, but we're not going to stop it from happening. However if there is any whiff of unhappiness from PP then we'll put a hard stop on the project.
  • PP Staff - they have not approved this in any official way (and probably never will), but they're willing to see how this turns out. They'll be keeping an eye on it/us to make sure we don't veer off path into copyright infringement (See also the Restrictions section, below, for what is expected on that topic).

PS if you have any questions about this project, please direct them towards incover (talk). He'll be running this show.

Restrictions

These are the ground rules for this project:

  1. Respecting Copyright. Unlike the game rules which are freely available, PP's lore and artwork is under copyright. We need to respect that if we want to put Lore on this website and keep it here. So it boils down to:
    • Do not copy fluff from books verbatim. Instead what you put here should be more a summary of events from books.
    • The occasional image from a book is okay, if it is something like a diagram or a map. If it is art for art's sake then don't upload it here.
Exception: if it is artwork that PP have already made freely available (by putting on their own website and/or their official Facebook page), then it's "fair game" to copy it across to here.
    • Don't add information from PP's most recent book (or two). Like, give them a chance to make money selling the book first, m'kay?
For instance, the Oblivion book was pre-released late 2019.07, and officially released early 2019.09. So we didn't put events from that book on here until at least the end of 2019.11.
    • Where possible, provide a link back to the book the info is from. Preferably a link to the PP site where people can buy the book.
  2. No Fan Fiction
  3. Pages and links:
    • All pages are to start with the word "Lore". For example, Lore - Cygnar. This is to create a clear divide between lore articles and gameplay articles (which are the main focus of WMU).
    • Do not redirect pages to Lore pages. For instance Morrow currently redirects to Category: Morrowan which is a list of Morrowan models. If you wanted to create Lore - Morrow, do not change the existing redirect to point at your new Lore page. (Feel free to put the Lore page into the Morrowan Category, though.)

Source Material

  • Lore - Source Material is essentially a bibliography of reference books. It does also contain links to some online short stories that you can read for free.
