Stryker on a hoss like a boss

My first time out with Stryker 3. I played him only to get the point for painting him in the Crossroads of Courage Narrative League. This is our last week, so I’m making the best of it.

We have two objectives, two flags, and a really disruptive wall in the middle. I can't charge over the wall. Nothing in my army has Pathfinder. Also, the Armon list has a lot of high DEF models, so when they have cover, Cygnar is going to struggle. I elected to go first, and advanced pretty cautiously. I didn't have my rings, but all the trenchers popped smoke. They probably didn't need to, since there was no shooting coming from the other side.

Menoth moves up, and I start my turn 2 on the offensive. Trenchers move up to tag team the acrobats, their solo, and a monk. I move up the Lancer for bait, the Hammer to threaten, and a the rest of the jacks to prep for point contention.

Armon feats. And there is a reason Synergy is appropriately named. Armon took down my Lancer, the Dirvish (the proxies one) finished the Lancer, Castigators moved up and took down Hammersmith and the second Lancer, more Dirvishes moved up and took out some trenchers. At this point, I tried figuring out a way to employ my feat, but the way he was embedded in my line, I realized that I would be limited on my feat turn.

Top of turn 3. Armon has opened himself up for assassination. I don't realize this at first, and take Triumph's bonus shot on the Castigator. I start allocating, and give a focus to the Firefly and Triumph. I drop my up-keeps. Triumph takes a boosted shot on Armon, hits, and slugs him pretty hard. Stryker moves up. Having as much movement as he has on that horse is just boss. He shoots with his Storm glaive, hitting Armon, who fails his tough check and surrenders.

We discussed strategy for a bit. This is the second time I’ve seen this caster exposed like this. The game shouldn’t come down to a tough check. Turns out, he can take out two points of mechanic and wrack, then swap out one of the Dirvishes for Vigilant. Then he’ll get cover wherever he goes. That +4 DEF won’t guarantee living, but will make it harder for Cygnar to pull off a ranged assassination.

For my part, if I were to get serious with the list, Stryker might like the Storm Blade Infantry and the Stormclad. Assault shots on a kick butt charge is frosting on cake kind of stuff. He could also use a little bit of support.

Stryker seems cool. I would like Storm Lances to back him up. And I need to practice with cavalry rules. I’m not planning on switching to him yet, since most of my practice has been with Beth. I’m still looking for a companion list for her, and am looking at Caine or Sloan as opposed to Siege. Mote on that later.
