• Kriel Company, Horgle or Grim2?

Kriel Company  Horgle2 or Grim2 First, a disclaimer. At the time of this writing, the Northkin CID has not gone public. The Runebearer still costs 4, and doesn’t extend control range. We won’t know if it has changed for a month or two. We also don’t know if the Krielstone will be changed to its final CID version. And the Pyre Trolls are up for review as well, so we have some things to readdress after the Northkin CID goes public. So, in the current game state, we have two warlocks who play Kriel Company a little differently from each

  • Games change. Suck it up and press on.

Games change.  Games based on War change pretty frequently.  In a way, the evolution of wargames parallels how the wars we simulate also evolve.   Over the last year, two of the biggest fantasy/sci-fi games underwent some pretty severe changes.  Games Workshop got rid of an entire world, advanced their 40k storyline and started some heated arguments over round vs square bases.   Privateer Press made a sweeping change last summer, releasing the third edition of their game.  Three changes in 15ish years isn’t bad in the wargame life cycle.   I don’t know why, but any time the games

  • Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters Day 3

Shadows in the Cloaks I think I use a lot of this particular color.  German Camouflage Black Brown.  It is exactly as it seems – black with a touch of color to keep it from being unnaturally black. Armor Next up: the armor!  Keeping things moving, I hit the armor with a few thin coats of Deep Green.   Paint Vallejo Model Color 70.822 German Camo Black Brown 70.970 Deep Green

  • Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters Day 2

Skintones & Swords I found an old bottle of Reaper Miniatures Master Series paint called Fair Skin.  Fifteen years ago, that paint mixed into a rosy peachy color, and to my surprise, still does today.  I tempered it with Vallejo Model Color Verdigris Glaze, in a 2:1 mix of Reaper:Vallejo.  Next, the Nyss Hunters took a splash of grey wash.  Their swords also took a hit from the Reaper/Vallejo mix, for an eerie greenish coloring along the wavy part. Armor Their leathers would take a hit of Military Green before my hour was up.  I hadn’t decided yet what was going on

  • Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters Day 1

I decided to take a break from my Cygnar build while I wait for some supplies.  In the meantime, I will be working on Cylena Raefyll & the Nyss Hunters.  First step is to pick a color scheme. The studio scheme appears to be a black with a touch of green in the cloak (or it could be my monitor).  Anyway, their whole spectrum is white->grey with a brown accent, and a gold to go with the brown.  I don’t have the book for Mercenaries, but from what I can tell, the group is from the north.  Usually they’re a pale sort of

  • Major Markus Siege Brisbane Day 4

Finally ready for play.  I finished by touching up his cloth and leather pieces with Vallejo Model Color 70.819 Iraqi Sand.  I think it has a nice bright color that contrasts nicely with the dark blues I’m using.  Next, I tried to correct any accidental brush marks, and finished by applying Vallejo Model Color Prussian Blue to the base.

  • Major Markus Siege Brisbane Day 3

Moving along with Major Markus Siege Brisbane.  Day 3 shows his Old Gold underlay followed up with a shot of Gold.  I also lightened the edges of his armor with a bit of blue.

  • Stormblade Captain

Holy cow, what was I thinking? Hats off to the guy who sculpted this piece.  I’m thinking if you can make this guy look good, you’re painting at a level 10.  For the life of me, I could not stop adding more and more and more layers until it looked like a gooped up mess. If I get a bug up my butt, I think I’ll completely strip this guy and repaint.  Maybe after I up my skill level.

  • Cygnar Light Warjacks Day 4

DAY 4. CYGNAR ‘JACK WORKS. UNDISCLOSED LOCATION. Madness We really made some headway today, and the gobbers are now taking a well deserved rest. By applying much more elbow grease than one would expect out of the little creatures, they’ve managed to clean up the ‘jacks to an almost quick-muster quality. The base colors are really starting to show through. I am especially proud of how the Charger’s gun has turned out. You can see the blue hue of the gunmetal. In the proper lighting, the silver sheen of the grey pops out on the gun barrels. All in all,
