• Long Gunner Infantry Officer & Standard

I tried to mimic the way I painted the first group of Long Gunner Infantry, but didn’t quite nail it.  These guys have been sitting on my shelf, since I hadn’t really found a place for them in my Mk2 lists.  Maybe next month, they’ll see some play.  Hence the rush to paint.

  • Blighted Nyss Swordsmen

Blighted Nyss Swordsmen & Unit Attachment After finishing this unit, I will almost be finished with my daughter’s Legion of Everblight models. I hate painting units. So I originally attempted to spend as little time as possible on these guys, but ended up wasting a whole day watching the adventures of “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt” on Netflix and painting this unit. I followed the same pattern as Saeryn and Rhyas and gave their skin a nice undercoat of white. Verdigris glaze atop the white added an unearthly skin color. Turns out, Verdigris refers to the color that copper turns when

  • Ogrun Bokur

Ogrun Bokur I purchased this guy used and abused, primed in a thick black coat of yuck. I started with some muted base coats, khaki mixed with metal glaze for the armor plates, a blue-green mix around the edges, olive drab for the skin. White for eyes and tusks. Leather brown for the straps and shoes. Next, I felt the need to highlight skin, and I mixed some Desert Yellow with USA Olive Drab and suspended it in a Glaze Medium to provide an extra dose of transparency. It looked like something nasty on my palette, but turned out well

  • Saeryn and Rhyas, Talons of Everblight

Saeryn and Rhyas, Twin Warlocks These were some more Legion of Everblight models previously owned by my daughter. She did the assembly last Christmas, but has since decided to move to another activity. They were primed grey, and I started with a white coat for their skin. Next, I dropped the remote control on one of the warlock’s arms, severing it. Then I followed up with a coat of verdigris glaze. I don’t know what verdigris means, but the glaze is very transparent, and the color is fairly unearthly. Their bone protrusions were painted Grey Green, pants painted German Camouflage

  • Widowmakers and the Marksman

Khadoran Widowmakers and the Marksman I finally got around to painting my Khadoran Widowmakers. I’ve played around with them in friendly battles at home, and I liked their Sniper ability, but was always disappointed that it only affected beasts and jacks. In all the fiction I’ve read, Widowmakers are lethal snipers, capable of delivering cruel head-shots at a great distance. They’re masters of the terrain, invisible when practicing their trade. So when Mk3 spoilers came out and said that the Widowmaker would remove tough (presumably with the new Cygnaran trenchers in mind), I felt pleased. But I’d still like to

  • Zuriel

Zuriel, Legion of Everblight My daughter started this guy as her first foray into Warmachines painting. Her desire to buy and read books outweighed her desire to play, and she traded her models to me for some Amazon credit. I decided to finish her model and push on with the rest of her Legion eventually. I really like how she started with almost a wash of purple on the wings. Her plan was to pretty much follow the box art, and although I considered a different scheme, I figured I’d follow her plan. These are colors I haven’t painted, and

  • Trencher Master Gunner

Trencher Master Gunners Since I planned on running a trencher army complete with two grenadiers, I figured I’d also run a master gunner for each ‘jack.  This was all planned before MkIII, but who knows what lies ahead?  I committed to the models, so I’ll continue painting all my Cygnar.  There is no telling what list I’ll decide upon before playing in a tournament.  I still consider myself untested, since all I’ve managed to find are friendly games.  I’m sure my first tourney will be a disaster, but at least I feel like my painting is improving.

  • Captain Maxwell Finn

Captain Maxwell Finn is Clint Eastwood This guy looks pretty awesome. His background is that he ripped this mounted machine gun off its mount and laid covering fire for his unit during a Kadoran invasion. So I figure he needs that behind enemy lines look. He’s been fighting his way back to Cygnaran territory for a couple months, so his beaten armor’s showing signs of rust. Mud covers his boots, the cold, wet battlefield seeping through the leather. Before we get there, we need to set him up with the base coats of which I’ve become so fond. Time sort

  • Trenchers Day 4

Time to finish these guys. Too much has been divulged of the new Warmachine Mark III for me to neglect them. To start with, I’m going to have to do something about the leader’s face. It looks like he needs a moustache and eyes. Since I declared that I won’t spend too much time on the Trencher Infantry, I’m not going to beat myself up over the eyes. Some overall touchups with the leather, gunmetal blue on the rifle barrels, and some wash touch of grey on the bedrolls eventually led to a coat of varnish. The Trenchers will receive

Time to brighten their armor. For the brightening, I used metal medium mixed with Prussian blue. Vallejo Model Color 70.521 and 70.965.
