• Trenches

Hardest Wargaming Terrain Ever A few months back, one of the local game stores agreed to host a Warmachine Rumble.  These were going to be 35 point Steamroller games on the 30″ tables. I decided that the store needed more terrain, so took it upon myself to make trenches for the 10″ tiles we already made. Step 1 – Cut Trench In Warmachine, the trench is a 3″x5″ tile that provides cover and prevents blast damage.   I chose plywood as my tile material.  In retrospect,  I would like something thinner than the 1/8″ thick ply, and just as sturdy

  • Caine 2 vs anyone

I almost didn’t post anything from this battle. I don’t enjoy a cheap kill, even if it is played fairly. By cheap kill, I mean having a warnoun hand themself over on a silver platter. That being said, there is a lesson here. So bear with me. Caine’s list… 75 / 75 Army Captain Allister Caine – WJ: +27 – Ace – PC: 12 (Battlegroup Points Used: 12) – Hunter – PC: 11 (Battlegroup Points Used: 11) – Hunter – PC: 11 (Battlegroup Points Used: 4) Arcane Tempest Rifleman – PC: 4 Gun Mage Captain Adept – PC: 5 Gun

  • Cryx Pump House

I was supposed to do terrain for the Crossroads of Courage, but got distracted by a plastic blister after picking up an X-Wing model last weekend. I figured it would make a good bunker or shed, and finally landed on the pump house idea. My thoughts are that the building will be an obstruction, and the green bile pool will serve as an acid pool. No swimming unless you’re wearing your acid proof wet suit.

  • Mine Entrance

Inspired by the Crossroads of Courage Narrative League, I took a couple hours to throw together a piece of scatter terrain for the campaign. I started with quarter inch plywood for the base. On large pieces, I do not recommend the ply. It warps. For smaller models, the warping doesn’t seem to be a problem. Time will tell. I purchased a tunnel entrance from the model railroading section at our local Hobbytown USA. N scale. It was on sale for less than 10 bucks. I had a pile of cut up foam left over from an earlier project. I positioned

  • Rumble Tiles

Tiles for a Rumble Format Game I feel like one of the locations we play weekly doesn’t have enough terrain.  So I designed some tiles that I will hopefully have done before we start the new “Courage” campaign.  They’re 10″ tiles, which will be arranged to form the 30″ play area for rumble games.  The great thing is that if I want to adapt them to a 48″ table, I only have to create some 10″x8″ tiles that can be fit on the end, along with a 8″x8″ corner.  All the rivers meet in the center of each tile,

  • Trencher Chain Gun Crew (Day 1)

Day 1 Three Gunners, a Paint Test & Terrain I bought three chain gun units to fill out a Seige Big Guns list, and started right away with a paint test on one set. I ended up redoing some work on the grunt, while the gunner’s primary base colors looked pretty good. Initially, I felt that setting up some terrain on the bases would help differentiate the three groups, but decided against doing terrain on the grunts.     Base Colors (Metal & Cloth) Next came a mix of Vallejo Black, Dark Prussian Blue and Gunmetal Blue in a 1:2:4 ratio. This

  • Storm Striders Day 1

Day 1: Storm Striders The two Storm Striders are going to be part of a Haley tier list. In my opinion, the best way differentiate between the two would be in their poses and by a unique base for each. I decided to have one crossing a crater I made out of plaster earlier last year, and to have the other crossing a ruined street. Crater / best foot forward I trimmed the crater so it would fit the huge base. Miliput filled in the gaps. I toyed with the idea of sandbags and a fried gun emplacement on the

  • Stormsmith Storm Tower & Stormcallers (Part 1)

I love MAD SCIENCE! These guys look like they’re right out of Phil and Kaja Foglio’s Girl Genius comics. Short Circuit The power cord sold with the Storm Tower leaves me wanting something better. It’s too short, and you end up placing the tower directly behind your operator.  I don’t honestly know how he can fire that thing, then move around with that short cord.  I suppose that is why they have a penalty where they can’t really do both at the same time. I want the feeling of battle; whipping around the tower to fire lightning at a foe
