• Beth vs Hexeris

Another Sunday, and more Hordes. My main meta consists of the following: Skorne Skorne/Retribution Menoth Menoth/Mercs Khador Circle Circle Cryx Cryx/Convergence Retribution Thing is, there are only a few people I play with regularly, so I end up mostly playing Skorne, Khador and Circle. Tonight was Skorne. I made a change to Beth’s list, taking out a Firefly and adding Ragman and Sylys Wyshnalyrr the Seeker. • Beth Maddox vs Master Tormentor Morghul

Another Skorne battle. This time. My son was my opponent. We ran on the mine battlefield from the Crossroads of Courage league, but with the Seek and Destroy scenario from the book. Because it was a school night, we ran a 60 min death clock at 75 points. Some scenarios didn’t get ported to the Steamroller booklet, and I believe there were reasons. Also, the timed game necessitates scoring on both your turn and your opponent’s. I continued running Beth, with Holden attached to the Blades. • Beth vs The Butcher

I didn’t expect this opponent to bring Khador. He is a scorned Skorne player, who is still trying to figure out where he fits into Mk3. I haven’t really played against him, so I wasn’t sure how he’d react to the two huge bases. Being a vet, he wasn’t intimidated. My list was the Mad Wall, as discussed in an earlier post. Playing what you own means you don’t always have the most popular or theoretically optimized pieces in the game.  I think Warmachine is actually fairly forgiving when dealing with what you own versus what the Internet says you should own.  But I also believe that the winners win because of skill.  They win because they understand how their pieces work, how their opponents pieces work, and they have a clear plan from the beginning on how they intend to win.  I’ve seen supposedly unbeatable lists lose due to gotcha plays, Terrain issues, dice spikes and just plain poor positioning or

  • Beth’s E-Leap of Faith vs Skorne’s Dominar Rasheth

Beth needed a bit of a revamp. As others have pointed out, being able to throw an Arcane Shield on one of my heavies would help its survival rate.  The new list adds a Journeyman Warcaster, and I test it on my Tuesday night game.

  • Beth’s E-Leap of Faith vs Vice Scrutator Vindictus

My next adventure with Beth was against another Menoth player, this time running Vindictus at 75 points. We started the Crossroads of Courage Narrative League this week, so attached Holden as a freebie. In reality, he should have cost 4 points. The scenario was Blizzard. The scenario’s LOS limitation severely impacted my ability to engage his forces with my Storm Strider. That, and the lack of magic weapons in my ranged shots prevented much of my disruption hijinks from messing with Menoth’s jacks. The scenario winning condition also prevented me from taking and holding zones of flags for control points.

  • Beth’s E-Leap of Faith vs Menoth’s Amon Ad-Raza

Beth’s first outing with her new crew found her in a strange town surrounded by Menoth.  Was this a real battle, or another flashback brought on by the trauma of her imprisonment? The scenario was Take and Hold. Amon was running two Castigators, a Vigilant and a couple Dirvishes. He had a choir, a couple monks, Daughters of the Flame, and a wrack.   Menoth won initiative. I ended up going first. Boo! I  decided to go for the enemy flag. A wall and hill were nearby.  I placed my guard on my 7″ line, backed them up with the

  • Beth’s E-Leap of Faith

Time for my Major Beth Maddox list. I’m going lightning heavy.  A little crazy,  but I really want a Storm Knight combined arms thing.  I know this list doesn’t seem to play into her strengths, since my hits feel low compared to the Hammer spam or Ironclad spam I’ve seen tossed around.  It also doesn’t include Ragman.  I figure with all the lightning thrown about, he is likely to be hit during the first wave.  So he doesn’t belong here.  He can hang out with the Sword Knights in another list.
