• Jarl Skuld into Khador

    Jarl may have the ability to stop some ranged attacks and even hold back a charge with his smoke cloud feat, but I have trouble when dealing with Khador after the stall. In this version of Jarl, I try out the Bomber, and leave most of the POD list intact.   • More Jarl Skuld

    Jarl the Impaler I’ve been arguing the merit of the Impaler. Is it worth its points? Should you take it or the Bomber?  What the heck is the Impaler used for?   • Jarl Skuld update

    I’ve been playing Jarl Skuld in friendly games at the game stores lately.  As stated before, I like him.  He isn’t overpowering, and his play requires a little forethought, but I’m starting to feel out how to unpack his army more efficiently.   • Troll progress report

    Jarl Skuld I’ve had a few friendly games, mostly 1v1v1 or other group games with a small number of Steamroller style.  Jarl has done well each time he’s been fielded. The last game had Jarl overseeing a Bomber, two Impalers and a Mauler.  I left the stone behind, threw in some Warders, Scatter Gunners  and a Bushwhacker unit.  The Gunners got popped by Khador and Widowmakers,  with the Warders taking a couple hits to prolong the shooting until the Gunners could close range.   • Jarl Skuld list

    This guy wants to be Caine so bad.  But he isn’t.  So what can I do with his list?  First off, I’m thinking gun line.  Secondly, Troll RAT is dead average.  A 5 means I’m struggling to hit a heavy warjack. Knocking down things seems to be the easiest method available to hit things.   War Wagon gives Jarl’s army a chance to hit stuff.  Dozer and Smigg boost the wagon’s shots.  The Bomber gives Jarl access to Snipe, and that means his threat extends to 22″ plus a 4″ magic bullet off the main guy hit.  So sure, you

  • Test driving Trolls

    I’ve had the opportunity to test out a few concepts, to include variations on the Band of Heroes Theme. So far,  I’ve played two games vs Skorne and one vs Mercenaries, then last Saturday played Grissel into Protectorate of Menoth,  Cryx and another Skorne plauer.  The initial two Skorne games were different melee lists, one with cavalry and one beast heavy.  The Mercs could have been any faction, but felt like a Stryker 1 knockdown ranged assassination with Grievous solos being the main threat.   • Jarl Skuld, Devil of the Thornwood

    I think this is one of my favorite models.  Yes, there are still a lot of details to hit, but his pose and gritty style makes everything palpable. This warlock is a little darker than the other shades of blue seen in my other models.  His rock studs are a muddy brown.  I did not tartan his clothing, because I figure he’s more of an outsider.  I hope we will see a Skuld 2 model with a few more Caine style gun mage abilities.
