• Carapace

Whether you’re a Cygnar player sporting a sweet gun line, or a Trollblood running Kriel Company,  you have to wonder how to handle Warbeasts and warjacks with Carapace.  Is it little more than cracking high armor? What is Carapace For those not in the know, Carapace is an ability that gives a +4 bonus to ARM against ranged attacks.  That includes sprays, AOEs, rockets, bullets, and so on, as long as the bullet, missile, what have you needed a RAT to hit. Why is it a problem? There are normally only a few models in the game with Carapace.  Skorne

  • No Quarter Prime 1: Urban Ambush pt2

Last night, I was able to run the No Quarter Prime scenario: Urban Ambush. It was different.  The supplier side definitely has an advantage.  Fitting a Warjack or Warbeast in the ambush list is difficult and costly.  Although the rules state no cavalry, it says nothing about battle engines.  Lastly, it can be difficult for somed factions to bring something to handle both armor and dudespam and incorporeal… all strategies for the supply team. Setup Instructions for setup are easy.  We used one of the crumbling buildings, because I have a paper house that fits inside a rubble piece. The

  • No Quarter Prime 1: Urban Ambush

In the back pages of the new No Quarter Prime magazine from Privateer Press, three Trencher themed scenarios offer some narrative-style gameplay.  Each scenario offers a method of winning outside of the normal Steamroller packet, and includes terrain options that push players outside their normal six piece comfort level. Scenario Elements The Urban Ambush scenario offers a moving capture the flag style game with no warcaster or warlock to muck things up.  Deployment areas and terrain selection helps sell the idea of a group of reinforcements carrying a small but valuable package to a nearby encampment.  The reinforcements win if

  • Trolls into Trenchers

As I read through my No Quarter magazine, I can’t help ask myself how I would handle Trenchers with my troll army.  What problems do they present? How do they counter our strengths?  Are they stronger than us on scenario? What Do Trenchers Ask of Us? Expect lots of Tough units hiding in or behind smoke clouds.  Cygnar has the ability to add reposition to its units, who can then pop smoke and disappear from sight.  Band of Heroes obviously deals with tough, but how do we handle clouds? In my game against Caine 3 at Texicon last July, I

Gun Mages vs anti-gun Sometimes I ask myself why I am such a glutton for punishment.   Let’s take a bunch of POW 10 gun’s into battle against an army known for its armor. • Kara Sloan and Gun Mages

Captain Kara Sloan. Her name summons nightmare visions of a wall of Hunters, threatening your caster on turn 1.  I guess that’s a way to play her, but I can’t see it being very successful.  I am pretty sure most factions have a way to handle the gun line, and with terrain being what it is, there should be fewer LOS opportunities for Kara to exploit. She is dangerous. Her weapon of choice, a Magelock rifle named Spitfire, hits from 14″ and does a POW 12 with 3 dice of damage.  Sloan can boost the damage roll, for 4d6 at

  • Haley 2 vs Rasheth

I apologize. I’ve been playing a lot of Trollbloods this year, so it’s easy to forget my first faction was Cygnar.  A local Skorne player decided he had a good list to throw into Warmachine, and asked if I could play my Cygnar.  I did, and now I feel dirty. Tricks are for… Warmachine? Major Victoria Haley, and even her other incarnations are so full of tricks that can make a game seem downright unfair.  Even a terrain heavy environment doesn’t seem to impair her ability to run the battlefield.  Thing is, I feel like Warmachine factions are the most

  • Borka2 vs Haley2, 35ish points

I convinced my teenaged daughter to play a little war machine last week.  She likes the electrically charged Cygnar Storm Callers.  They remind her of the “Girl Genius” comic.  So I explained Haley’s powers as a spark and showed her the Storm Strider with the callers and their crazy hair.
